Artist Statement

Erik Salgado is a Chicago based interdisciplinary artist. Born from Mexican parents and raised in Chicago, Erik grew an interest in graffiti and hip hop culture both themes often seen his work. About this piece he says: "I have been working in this style for the past few years. This body of work is influenced by Mesoamerican sculpture/architecture and graffiti aesthetics/techniques. This body of work lives through printmaking, traditional/digital drawings, paintings and now outdoor murals. This mural on the Hilton and with the opportunity given by the Wabash Arts Corri-doors project jump-starts the beginning of strategically making this body of work more public through street art."
