ABOUT THE ARTIST

Tima is a Moroccan visual and street artist from the town of Khouribga. She received her training at the School of Fine Arts in Casablanca. She is one of only three female artists in Morocco currently gaining visibility through large mural projects in the competitive world of street art in Morocco. Her technique (plasticity) involves creating an illusion that objects depicted are three dimensional by portraying the variations of light and shade that naturally occur in solid objects. Her dominant themes depict woman, often turning around in a dreamlike composition. This recurring and emblematic theme is displayed in the guise of an enigmatic and closed face, as if totally detached from the discontinuous and unpredictable movements that surround her, silently contemplating the unknown, or simply lost in her own thoughts. Tima presents powerful works that are odes to the unknown, memory, and resistance. In addition to selling some of her paintings to private collectors, Tima also works as a commercial art director while continuing to accept invitations for prestigious street art festivals.

About This Project

This project was produced in conjunction with Casablanca Committee of Chicago Sister Cities International, in collaboration with Francis W. Parker School where Tima was in residence in October 2022.
