Bat’s Imagination
Ruby Bean
Hilton Chicago: 720 S. Michigan Avenue (Wabash Avenue Side)
Bat’s imagination is a reflection of all things Ruby Bean. Bat is a gender non-conforming character who explores the intersectionality between the natural world and gender identity. Bat’s imagination shows a vibrant release of energy that encompasses a blue whale unraveling its skeletal system. Whales symbolize compassion and solitude as well as knowledge of life and death. These sacred animals are known to represent unbridled creativity. When exhaling through their blowholes, what's released symbolizes the freeing of one's creative energy. Bats creative energy is constantly being expressed through street art. The sun and moon compositionally help add to the themes of life and death as night and day. This mixture of personal narrative and illustrative elements allow Ruby Bean to express themselves truthfully and authentically via mural.
Ruby Bean is an illustration major at Columbia College Chicago and is expected to graduate in 2024.
