WABASH ARTS CORRI-DOORS: CHLOE DEVRIES

TITLE

The Squawkers

ARTIST

Chloe DeVries

LOCATION

Hilton Chicago: 720 S. Michigan Avenue (Wabash Avenue Side)

ARTIST STATEMENT

Baby birds are loud, they’re needy, they yell until they’re nurtured. As a species we tend to look down on them as weak and helpless. Where we see a baby bird squawk, we yearn for similar care: security, comfort, a meal to fill your belly. I think baby birds are fleshy, squishy little reminders of these needs, the kind of nurturing needed to grow- as individuals and as communities. Humans are like baby birds- we reach for help, we call to action, and we seek safety in community, and in that way this piece is a token of my love to squawkers of all kinds.
