Artist Statement

Melanie Vazquez is a painter currently working on portraying her personal experiences within her Mexican culture to relate to her viewers. Melanie looks to Contemporary, Surrealist, and Abstract art to influence her work. In order to make her work relatable, she tries to associate her work with her past while it coincides with issues of different cultures faced in today's society. Being a first generation Mexican-American in the United States of America makes it easy to forget her roots. This mural is a reminder of Mexico to not only herself, but those who long to find a little piece of home. Melanie’s current goal is to remind the audience, not only of Mexican culture, but of their own culture with hopes that her work can resonate with everyone.
