11 Oct Columbia College Chicago’s Wabash Arts Corridor Crawl 2016

CHICAGO (October 10, 2016) — The Wabash Arts Corridor (WAC), Chicago’s center of public art, presents the 2016 WAC Crawl on Friday, October 21 from 4-9 p.m., a free public event along Wabash Avenue from Congress Parkway to Roosevelt Road. This year’s celebration features exhibitions, performances and events from businesses and major cultural and educational institutions in the South Loop and coincides with Columbia Weekend, Columbia College Chicago’s signature “welcome back” event of the Fall semester. WAC Crawl highlights include:

“Columbia and our 100+ partners and contributors to the Corridor are thrilled to present this year’s WAC Crawl,” says Neysa Page-Lieberman, curator of the WAC and Director of Columbia’s Department of Exhibitions, Performance and Student Spaces. “We’re celebrating two dozen new murals and public art projects produced this year as well as the continued tradition of offering an incredibly fun evening of arts and cultural programming for the public.”

In addition to blues, rock, and acoustic music; traditional and contemporary dance; fashion, film screenings, spoken word, and a pop-up art store, South Loop businesses will offer food and drink specials. Other events include:

The WAC was launched by Columbia College Chicago in 2013 to transform the college’s campus and community into a destination neighborhood to live, work, study and visit. In three years, the WAC has installed over 40 large-scale murals by local and internationally-renowned street artists, creating one of the most significant collections of public art in the downtown of a major city.

Participants include Columbia College Chicago, Roosevelt University, YOU Media, Movement Revolution Dance Crew, Chicago Multicultural Dance Center, Mazi Dance, Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra, Buddy Guy’s Legends, Hilton Chicago, the Blackstone Hotel, the Elephant Gallery, Willow Chicago, 1001 S. State St. and The Wabash Lights.
